Usually I don't make blog posts for the sake of gloating, and I still don't. But recent events, taking place over last weekend, as well as this weekend, force me to alter my principles just a little. Mostly because, before said matches, certain fans I happen to know were giving me a bit of a hard time throwing around baseless crap about Liverpool, saying we can give up hope of winning the cup already and that the only reason we've even come this far is because we're a one-man team and we'd perish without Torres.
FYI, Torres is one of our best players, on that we all agree. Read it again. ONE OF OUR BEST. So yes, we tend to look to him to score goals. He's a striker, that's what he freaking does. He touches the ball last before it hits the back of your net, but that doesn't make it a one-man effort.
If you watched as much football as you claim to, I wouldn't need to explain this next bit to you. A squad exists mainly to score goals and defend their side. True, it's not always the same squad, and also true, it's not always guaranteed that they will win. Even if you just listened to the commentary you'd usually hear a striker's name just before the ball goes in (or out, can't be too cocky) and not continuously for the entire build up of the shot. That's why the midfielders, defenders AND the goalkeeper exist at all.
If you're saying that despite all the others it's only our one striker that makes all the difference, well, all I can say to that is - maybe your team is so crappy that that's all we need. Going by your word, even if 10 of our players got sent off, apparently the one that's left can still win against you. Or maybe the fact of the matter is that it bothers you that only one name is given credit if a goal is scored. So maybe when you play you can name all the players on your team when you score, just so no one can label you the way you feel you should, us.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not lashing out at you just because you had so much to say before you lost to us. I'm doing it because you've gone from pointing and laughing at our string of draws to congratulating us for "playing so well against us" and claiming that you're "actually a Liverpool supporter as well, just not all the time". For God's sake, grow a pair and pick a side. We don't stop you from celebrating when you win, so at least develop enough decency to stand-by the team you supposedly support when you lose. Suddenly turning neutral as you slip down the table just makes you look like an idiot, and above all just ruins the experience for everyone.
As an end note, here are a couple of pictures to help you along in your humbling:
Eat that!!
